In the northern state of Mato Grosso is some of the largest and most productive corn and soybean crops in the world , producing about 50 million tons of grain per year. According to 2012 data from the National Land Transport Agency ( ANTT ) , these grains are transported on average by 4700 trucks per day , bound for the port of Santos / SP , where each vehicle travels 1528 km by BR -163 , to embark on foreign markets ( Europe, USA and Asia) . If transport occurred via Waterway Tapajós andTeles Pires , potentially navigable rivers , the goods arrive at the port of Santarém / PA , where they could be transported directly by the Atlantic Ocean , generating savings of transport ( road transport not being necessary to the Port of Santos ) . The objective of this study was to identify the advantages of flowing grain by waterway. For this, we used literature searches, research papers and internet. With this study, a comparison of the use of waterways in flowing grain with the road transport was presented, highlighting its benefits for the country's economy, generating cost savings compared to the current methods.
