Caffeine (CA) is considered an ergogenic substance (ES), which can promote increased physical performance. Although the effects of CA are proven for aerobic training, few studies have evaluated its effect on strength training. The objective was to evaluate the effect of caffeine intake on 1MR tests and maximal repetitions. A group of ten men, ± 25 years old were evaluated by means of a double blind test in which a substance was administered 30 min before the tests (CA or placebo). A maximal repetition test (1MR) and maximum repetitions (MR) were performed. CA promoted increased load in the 1MR test, CA: 102kg ± 14.5; placebo: 97.142 kg ± 17.8 and no MRI: CA 24 ± 1.6; placebo 22 ± 6. As a conclusion CA promoted a performance increase in the 1MR test.
