Presença de grânulos plásticos (Pellets) no sedimento de uma praia do Litoral Central do Estado de São Paulo (Guaiuba, Guarujá)

Abstract

Grânulos plásticos são transportados principalmente por navios, utilizados como matéria prima de fabricação de todos os tipos de plásticos. Quando estes chegam aos portos, o manuseio dos containers leva acidentalmente ao derramamento destes pellets no ambiente marinho. Devido sua flutuabilidade este material chega na costa e se acumula no sedimento. Este trabalho teve como objetivo quantificar os grânulos plásticos em uma praia do litoral do estado de São Paulo (Guaiuba, Guarujá). Foram realizadas ao todo três coletas sendo duas na parte superior da praia e uma na zona de deixa de maré. Foram coletados 166,68 pellets por m³ tendo como diferença significativa a porção sudeste em relação as demais porções. Várias colorações são encontradas devido a fotodegradação do plástico exposto. A tendência de acúmulo deste material se dá nas extremidades da praia sentido sudeste devido à deriva litorânea encontrada por outros autores.

Presence of plastic granules (Pellets) in the sediment of beach located in the Central Coast of São Paulo State (Guaiuba, Guarujá)

Abstract: Plastic granules are mainly shipped, used as raw materials for the manufacture of all types of plastics. When they arrive at ports, handling containers can accidentally spill these pellets into the marine environment. Due to its buoyancy this material reaches the coast and accumulates in the sediment. This paper aimed to quantify the plastic granules in a beach of the coast of São Paulo state (Guaiuba, Guarujá). A total of three collections were made, two in the upper part of the beach and one in the tidal zone. A total of 166.68 pellets per m³ were collected, with a significant difference of the southeast portion in relation to the other portions. Different colors are found due to photodegradation of the exposed plastic. The tendency of accumulation of this material occurs in the southeastern ends of the beach due to the coastal drift found by other authors.
