Modelagem Numérica do Processo de Lingotamento Contínuo Horizontal de Tarugos de Cobre

Abstract

A obtenção de tubos de cobre para as mais diversas aplicações em engenharia passa invariavelmente por uma etapa de fundição, cuja microestrutura refletirá nas propriedades mecânicas e, consequentemente, na posterior conformação. O presente trabalho objetiva apresentar um modelo numérico unidimensional em diferenças finitas simplificado que represente o processo de lingotamento contínuo horizontal de tubos de cobre em tarugos com um furo central. Com o modelo proposto foi possível observar, para diferentes velocidades de lingotamento, a distribuição de temperatura na região interna ao longo da secção longitudinal do tarugo bem como a formação da camada solidificada antes da saída do molde refrigerado, demonstrando a aplicabilidade do modelo simplificado para controle do processo em ambiente industrial, com um baixo custo computacional e fácil identificação dos parâmetros térmicos envolvidos.

Numerical Modeling of Horizontal Continuous Casting process of Copper Hollow billets

Abstract: The obtaining of copper pipes for the most diverse engineering applications invariably goes through a casting step, whose microstructure will reflect in the mechanical properties and consequently in the subsequent conformation. The present work aims to present a simplified one-dimensional finite difference numerical model that represents the continuous horizontal casting process of pure copper hollow billets (tubes). It was possible to observe, for different casting velocities, the temperature distribution in the internal region along the longitudinal section of the billet as well as the formation of the solidified layer before the exit of the cooled mold, demonstrating the applicability of the proposed process control model in industrial environment, with a low computational cost and easy identification of the solidification and cooling conditions during the process.
