A informação como instrumento de garantia à autonomia da parturiente e de prevenção à violência obstétrica

Abstract

Resumo: Entende-se por violência obstétrica o conjunto de atos desrespeitosos, abusivos, maus-tratos e condutas negligentes contra a mulher e o bebê, antes, durante ou depois do parto, por profissionais dos serviços saúde. Tais práticas surgem do paternalismo médico e da retirada da parturiente da posição de protagonismo no âmbito de seu próprio parto, vista como incapaz e frágil, privada de informações quanto ao processo fisiológico. O presente artigo busca analisar a normatização do direito do paciente à informação e do dever do médico de fornecê-la. Após, busca-se analisar o papel da informação como garantidora da autonomia da mulher no contexto obstétrico e como forma de prevenção às práticas de violência obstétrica.

Information as an instrument to guarantee the autonomy of the parturient and to prevent obstetric violence.

Abstract: Obstetric violence is understood as a set of disrespectful, abusive, ill-treatment and negligent practices against the woman and the baby, before, during or after childbirth, by health service professionals. Such practices arise from medical paternalism and the withdrawal of the parturient from the role of protagonism within the scope of her own labor, seen as incapable and fragile, deprived of information about the physiological process. This article seeks to analyze the standardization of the patient's right to information and the doctor's duty to provide it. Afterwards, we seek to analyze the role of information as a guarantee of women's autonomy in the obstetric context and as a way of preventing obstetric violence practices.
