A representação das Bruxas nas artes: uma leitura a partir da “História da Feiúra” de Umberto Eco

Abstract

Resumo:

O trabalho foi fruto do trabalho de conclusão de curso em pós-graduação em História da Arte, que teve por objetivo falar sobre a Arte e as representações de Feiúra na Arte à luz de Umberto Eco. Temos por base a obra do referido autor intitulado “Storia della Bruttezza”, onde as representações da feiúra em variados períodos são explicados pela perspectiva histórica, artística e filosófica. Nesse artigo, falaremos em particular sobre a representação a bruxa nas representações artísticas, em especial nas pinturas, através de características estéticas que designam sua condição, tendo por objetivo relacionar sua imagem com a figura maligna e repulsiva. Dessa forma, a partir de uma revisão bibliográfica, tratamos de expor algumas representações artísticas das bruxas nas artes e suas principais características.

The representation of Witches in the arts: a reading from Umberto Eco's "History of Ugliness".

Abstract:

The work was the result of a postgraduate course conclusion work in Art History, which aimed to talk about Art and the representations of Ugliness in Art in the light of Umberto Eco. We are based on the work of the aforementioned author entitled “Storia della Bruttezza”, where the representations of ugliness in various periods are explained by the historical, artistic and philosophical perspective. In this article, we will talk in particular about the representation of the witch in artistic representations, especially in paintings, through aesthetic characteristics that designate her condition, aiming to relate her image to the malignant and repulsive figure. Thus, from a literature review, we try to expose some artistic representations of witches in the arts and their main characteristics.
